FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Marilyn K. Potts, APR, Public Relations/Marketing Specialist - (210) 575-0170

Methodist Heart Hospital hosted a visit by the Boston Scientific Mobile Simulation Training Unit, which provides a state-of-the-art simulated cardiac catheterization lab in which physicians can receive hands-on experience with new cardiac devices and procedures.

The Methodist Heart Hospital wanted to participate to secure its position at the forefront of advanced treatments for patients with coronary artery disease, the hospital will utilize the Boston Scientific Mobile Simulation Training Unit to provide state-of-the-art simulation training for its cardiac catheterization lab physicians and staff. Interventional cardiologists will train using the new FilterWire EZÔ Embolic Protection System from Boston Scientific. The FilterWireEZ System, recently cleared by the FDA, is designed to reduce risks during saphenous vein graft (SVG) interventions.

The Boston Scientific Mobile Simulation Training Unit is a 35-foot bus that replicates a cardiac catheterization lab environment, complete with a pre-procedure patient briefing area, an area for performing interventional procedures on a simulated patient named “Simantha” and a post-procedure care management and metric evaluation computer station.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) affects approximately 11 million Americans and is the single leading killer of American men and women, causing approximately 500,000 deaths per year. Methodist Hospital is addressing this deadly disease head-on, with sophisticated training in new devices and techniques.
