OWL RADIO BRINGS AUDIO ACCESS OF PRINTED INFORMATION TO PATIENTS AT METHODIST HOSPITAL

Methodist Hospital and the San Antonio Low Vision Club are showing that they really give a “hoot” about print disabled hospital patients by making Owl Radio available to them. Owl Radio provides audio access of printed information for people who are blind, visually disabled, physically disabled or learning disabled. The free service is available to all Methodist Hospital patients through the TV system in their rooms. The broadcast is supplied over a sub channel of Texas Public Radio, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

On Owl Radio, the San Antonio Express-News is read daily from 9 to 11 a.m. and repeated from 7 to 9 p.m. Programming also features daily readings of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Other Owl Radio publications include Ladies Home Journal, Ebony, Sports Illustrated and USA Today. Sunday schedules differ slightly, and a program guide is available. A program of the San Antonio Low Vision Club, Owl Radio is co-sponsored by Texas Public Radio and the San Antonio Express-News.

With advance notice, we can arrange for an interview with a patient who is enjoying the service and with a nurse at Methodist Hospital who is a volunteer reader with the program. Methodist Hospital is located at 7700 Floyd Curl Dr.
