Thursday, August 24, 2006 UNDERSTANDING THE LINK BETWEEN HPV AND CERVICAL CANCER Each year about 14,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with cervical cancer, according to the National Cervical Cancer Coalition, and more than 3,900 women in the U.S. die from the disease annually. High risk human papillomavirus (HPV) types are directly related to cervical cancer. Though an estimated 80 percent of U.S. women have HPV, many women are unaware of what HPV is or its relationship to cervical cancer. Karen Feinstein, M.D., and Nancy Rector Finney, M.D., will discuss this relationship at “The Link Between HPV and Cervical Cancer,” a seminar presented by WomanPlus®, a membership program of Methodist Healthcare. The seminar will be Tuesday, August 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Methodist Healthcare System Offices, 8109 Fredericksburg Road. For registration information, phone the Methodist Healthcare HealthLine, 210-575-0355 or toll-free at 1-800-333-7333. With advance notice, Dr. Feinstein is available for interviews on the importance of cervical cancer prevention and how to manage the disease.
