There’s no place like home, especially when you’re recovering from surgery. So Methodist Hospital has created a suite that offers the comforts of a home-like environment for surgery patients who need several days of recovery time under the watchful eyes of nurses and doctors. The suite contains two areas with separate baths for the patient and a family member or guest and a sofa in the sitting room that converts to a bed. The sitting room also provides a separate room for the patient’s loved one or companion to watch TV, read, or use the telephone while the patient rests and recovers from surgery. Other amenities include a refrigerator for drinks and snacks, a DVD player, and a high-speed Internet connection. Many of the patients who use the suite are recovering from gastric bypass surgery. Cost for the suite is an additional $140 a night and is not covered by insurance. With advance notice, we can arrange for media to photograph and videotape in the suite and visit with a patient there.
